Ghosting means suddenly cutting off contact with someone without any explanation – disappearing like a ghost.
With ghosting, someone breaks off contact without saying a word. Messages go unanswered, the other person has simply vanished. The term comes from “ghost” and has been common since around 2015.
For the other person this often hurts more than a clear no. There’s no explanation, and so the brooding begins: “Did I write something wrong? Has something happened to him?” An open ending is hard to close.
Yet there’s rarely malice behind ghosting. Usually it’s insecurity, feeling overwhelmed or shying away from an awkward conversation. People don’t know how to say no – and so they say nothing at all.

If you realise it isn’t a match, use “End chat” in the chat menu. The other person then gets a friendly note instead of radio silence and knows where he stands. You don’t have to give a reason, and if you change your mind, you can write again at any time.
