Accessibility

DaddyBoy should be usable for every man: also if you cannot see or see poorly, cannot hear, or do not use a mouse. This page says openly what works, what does not work yet and what we are building.

What works

  • Use without a mouse You reach every function with the Tab key, a green frame shows where you are. The first stop on every page is "Skip to content", which takes you past the menu.
  • Use with a screen reader Buttons, switches and fields are labelled, errors in forms are announced. After a page change you hear the name of the new page. Windows above the page keep the focus, Escape closes them.
  • A chat that announces A new message is announced with the sender's name, one of your own is confirmed with "Message sent". In the history every message starts with who wrote it.
  • Dictate instead of typing Every text field accepts your device's dictation, including the message field in the chat: on a phone the microphone on the keyboard, on a Mac the dictation key, on Windows the Windows key and H. Your device recognises the speech, not DaddyBoy.
  • Contrast and enlargement Text and buttons keep the contrast of level AA, in the light and in the dark colour scheme. The page can be enlarged freely in the browser.
  • A calm screen If your device is set to "reduce motion", DaddyBoy shows no animations. Nothing flashes, no video starts with sound by itself.
  • Large targets, clear states Controls are at least 44 pixels high. Whether a switch is on or off is never shown by colour alone, but always by shape or word as well.
  • Everything important without sound A call appears as a banner, on the phone with vibration. A new message shows as a number in the menu and in the title of the window. The films in the handbook have captions, the song for younger visitors in all three languages.
  • A visible signal instead of sound Under account, notifications, sounds you switch on the visible signal. Then every sound also shows as a line at the upper edge, the phone vibrates, and the films in the handbook start with captions.
  • Voice hello and voice messages as text Under every voice hello you can read what is said. Voice messages in the chat are shown as text once you switch that on under account, notifications, sounds. The transcription runs on our own server.
  • Pictures with a description A picture is read out with its caption. If the member has not written one, our software on our own server describes in one or two sentences what it shows. It estimates neither age nor origin.

What does not work yet

  • Videos without captions Members' clips have no captions. The videos in the press area are getting them one by one.
  • Age verification with the camera For the age verification you record your ID and yourself with the camera. Your device can read the instructions aloud, and the page then covers the numbers on the ID by itself. Holding the ID in view without seeing remains hard, though. Write to us and we will look for a way together.
  • Wordmark with little contrast The light green and the salmon of our wordmark stand out little on a light background. It is never the only way to a page.

What we are working on

  • Captions for members' clips.
  • Help with framing the ID for members who cannot see.

How we check

Our standard is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines WCAG 2.2 at level AA. We check the pages with an automated testing tool and with the keyboard, in the light and in the dark colour scheme, on the phone and on the computer.

A testing tool does not find everything. The walk-through with screen readers such as VoiceOver, TalkBack and NVDA by people who use them every day is still to come.

Tell us where you get stuck

You cannot get past a certain point? Write to us and name your device, your browser and, if you use one, your screen reader. We will get back to you and fix it.

You use a screen reader and would like to go through DaddyBoy with it? Then we are especially glad to hear from you.
