With a slow fade, contact is wound down bit by bit until it fizzles out – the quiet, creeping form of ghosting.
Slow fade means gradually fading out. Instead of breaking off contact in one go, someone lets it peter out step by step: the replies come less often, get shorter and later and later. At some point nothing comes at all.
You can see the slow fade as a quiet form of ghosting. For the other person it’s often hard to read, because there’s no clear moment when it’s over. A long evening chat turns into a “Sorry, lots going on” – and then just a thumbs-up.

If you notice your interest fading, an honest sentence is fairer than fading out. You’ll find “End chat” in the chat menu for that: the other person gets a friendly note and doesn’t have to guess. You can still write again at any time.
