An otter is a slim but hairy man – somewhere between a twink and a bear.
On the gay scene, an otter is a slim man with noticeable body hair. He isn’t as big as a bear, but not as smooth as a twink either – somewhere in between.
As with the bear, the name comes from the animal kingdom: the otter is slim, agile and has fur. Animal names like these are popular on the scene because they describe a whole type in a single word.
Like all scene types, otter is a rough guide. Nobody has to commit, and many move from one box to the next over the course of their lives.
