Masc stands for “masculine” and describes a pointedly manly manner; “masc4masc” is seen as exclusionary.
“Masc” is short for “masculine”. It means a manner that matches traditional ideas of masculinity: deep voice, calm gestures, no glitter.
You often read the word in profiles, as a self-description or as a wish. Best known is “masc4masc” – a masculine man looking for a masculine man.
That’s exactly what gets criticised in the community. When a profile says “masc only”, feminine men feel excluded and devalued. Behind it there’s often the old idea that feminine behaviour in men is something bad.
“Masc, sporty, looking for the same” – sounds harmless, but can hurt.
