Love bombing means showering someone with affection, compliments and attention right from the start – often to tie them to you.
Love bombing means just what it says: a bombardment of love. Someone showers you with affection right at the start: constant compliments, gifts, messages around the clock and very early declarations of love. That feels wonderful at first – but it can quickly become suffocating.
The term comes from research into cults in the 1970s. There it described how groups heaped warmth on new members to bind them. In dating, too, love bombing is often a form of manipulation: when you receive so much, you quickly feel obliged.
