Day two since launch. We’ve received lots of feedback from you all again, and once more, a good proportion of it has already been incorporated. First things first: you can now tell everyone what you’re up to today.
New: ‘What are you up to today?’
At the top of the screen, where the video button used to be, you’ll find your status. There are five statuses to choose from: “Open for chats”, “Out and about on the spur of the moment”, “Fancy a video call”, “Just browsing” and “Do not disturb”. You choose how long it lasts: one, three or six hours, or until tonight. After that, it disappears automatically – you don’t have to worry about a thing. There’s no free-text field, but each status is clear at a glance.
For everyone else, your status appears as a coloured ring with a short caption on your profile picture, and as a small badge on maps and tiles. Anyone who sees ‘Open for chats’ or ‘Fancy a video call’ knows it’s worth getting in touch now. ‘Do Not Disturb’ replaces the previous ‘Call Pause’ feature: video calls won’t come through, and you can read messages later. You can also set this status in the sidebar, in the account menu on your phone, and directly in the ‘Discover’ welcome screen.
With Premium, you can search specifically by status, and on ‘Discover’ there’s a ‘Available Now’ list showing everyone who’s open, spontaneous or in the mood for a video call. The button only appears when someone is currently available. The status has no effect on your position in the suggestions.
Improved: Founding members, honestly counted
We’ve limited the number of founding members to 300 accounts. A small group that has shaped the community from the very beginning, rather than a large number intended merely to impress. Nothing changes in terms of what’s on offer: the badge is permanent; anyone who verifies their account within 90 days of signing up receives four weeks’ Premium for free and, thereafter, the Founders’ Reward, provided the subscription continues without interruption. Anyone who’s already a member remains a founding member.
We’ll only reveal figures when they’re meaningful: the number of places left, once there are fewer than 250, and the number of founding members once it reaches one hundred. You won’t see any countdowns, tight deadlines or ‘last chance today’ messages here. This isn’t just a nice gesture, it’s a principle: artificial scarcity is taboo for us.
Improved: Chats and Discover
Until now, an open request would appear in your chat list as ‘awaiting reply’, as if the other party were waiting. Now it says ‘Request sent on … · no reply yet’. Because it’s you who’s waiting.
The ‘Hot Boys’ and ‘Hot Daddies’ buttons on ‘Discover’ now only appear if there are actually pictures in that section. A button that leads to an empty page is of no use to anyone.
Improved: faster on mobile
The homepage now loads fully from the server, rather than being assembled in the browser. On mobile, the first image now loads more than twice as fast as it did yesterday. What’s more, all pages now only load the language you’re actually viewing; previously, German, English and Dutch were always loaded together. On the homepage, this means a good third less data, and you’ll notice the difference when you first open the members’ area too.
And otherwise: open to search engines, closed to profiles
As of today, Google and other search engines can find DaddyBoy. This applies exclusively to the public pages: the homepage, features, news and legal notices. Profiles, images, chats and everything behind the login remain blocked from search engines, just as before. Nothing will change in this regard, not even in the future.
