The Ick is a sudden, barely explainable aversion to someone you found attractive just a moment ago.
“The Ick” describes the moment when attraction flips all at once. A second ago you thought he was great, then he does some little thing – and suddenly all you feel is aversion. Often it’s something completely harmless: the way he slurps his coffee, a particular emoji, a laugh. It’s almost impossible to explain.
The expression became well known through the dating show “Love Island”.
It typically sounds like this: “He was really cute, but then he chewed with his mouth open. Ick. Over.”
Important: the Ick isn’t a red flag. It usually says more about your own gut feeling than about the other person.
