Delulu comes from “delusional” and means knowingly talking yourself into something – usually with a wink.
Delulu is a cutesy form of “delusional”, meaning out of touch with reality. It describes knowingly talking something up to yourself even though the facts say otherwise. It usually sounds self-mocking: you know you’re exaggerating and say it anyway.
A typical line: “He hasn’t replied for two days, but I’m sure he’ll message any minute. I’m just delulu.”
The word has been in the Cambridge Dictionary since 2025.
